In Australia, most of us are great at giving help, but not so great at asking for it. That’s especially true of unpaid carers, who go to extraordinary lengths caring for a loved one - often 24/7. They would never consider their dedication as special, or heroic - many don’t even see themselves as carers. But the truth is, in caring for their friend or family member, there’s almost nothing they wouldn’t do - except ask for help. Based on these insights, we repositioned the Dept. of Social Services’ Carer Gateway as ‘help for those who might never ask’. We used real-life carers and their loved ones in their own environments, to authentically dramatise their everyday reality, shining a light on the often overlooked contribution made by unpaid carers.
